Life in North East is a digital news and culture platform covering Northeast India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. We write about life, people, culture, food, arts, events and places to visit, with the care of insiders and the curiosity of first-timers.
We started on Instagram as @lifeinnortheastin, sharing the region one reel at a time. This website is where those stories get room to breathe.
What we believe
Not remote
The Northeast is the centre of its own story. We cover it that way.
Names matter
We get places, communities and people’s names right, and we credit them.
No exoticising
No “hidden gems” and “exotic tribes”. Just real people, real places and real reporting.
Fun is allowed
Serious about facts, never boring about them.
Who is behind it
Life in North East is published by Legal Desire Media and Consulting, the independent media company behind Legal Desire and Fashion Law Journal. It was founded by Anuj Kumar and is run by a small core team from our newsroom in Shillong. Meet the team.
